Kejriwal will be produced in court soon as ED custody is over
A Delhi court earlier on Thursday gave AAP convenor ED detention until April 1. The agency requested seven days of incarceration, but the court ordered him to appear in court on April 1 at 11 a.m. While Kejriwal was being questioned in custody for five days, the ED claimed in its new remand request that he was “giving evasive replies” to questions. It claimed that throughout the remand term, statements from three more people who are pertinent to the case were also recorded. It stated that while in the custody of the ED, Kejriwal was confronted by C Arvind, the deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s personal secretary at the time, who gave him the draft Group of Ministers report for the 2021–22 excise policy at his home.
It claimed that a statement made by an AAP candidate for the Goa elections in 2022 was also taped while Kejriwal was in the custody of the ED. The appeal stated that data from the chief minister’s wife’s cell phone had been removed and was being analyzed during the custody, revealing that the candidate had no money and that his election expenses were “taken care of by the AAP Office Delhi only through their associates”. “However, data from other four digital devices seized during the search at Kejriwal’s premises on March 21 are yet to be extracted as the arrestee has sought time in providing password and login credentials after consulting with his lawyers,” stated the statement.
The application stated that neither the chief minister nor any of his family members had yet to furnish the income tax returns, details on movable and immovable property, or other financial information requested from Kejriwal. According to the federal inquiry agency, it had looked up information on the appointments with the chief minister through his office’s web portal. Senior Punjabi excise officers who were “involved in the arm-twisting of certain wholesalers of Delhi” were allegedly summoned during the interrogation.
According to the organization, these officials either closed their operations or prevented the wholesalers from sending their products to Punjab when the demand for bribes went unfulfilled. The plea claimed that the relevant officials requested an extension for the summonses, referencing the Sangrur hooch catastrophe. “In light of these justifications or conclusions, the arrestee requires additional questioning. Therefore, it is necessary for the purpose of the investigation that Arvind Kejriwal be placed under further custody remand for seven days, according to the request.
