Island Coconut Festival 2025 Begins Today in Sri Vijaya Puram

Sri Vijaya Puram is set to host the much-anticipated Island Coconut Festival 2025, which officially begins today, October 9. The annual celebration, known for its vibrant cultural showcase and agricultural pride, brings together farmers, artisans, performers, and tourists to honor the region’s rich coconut heritage.

Organized by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Sri Vijaya Puram Tourism Board, the festival will run for five days at the coastal town’s central fairgrounds. The opening ceremony is expected to feature traditional dance performances, a ceremonial coconut-breaking ritual, and speeches by local dignitaries and agricultural leaders.

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Tradition, Growing with Innovation,” highlights the evolving role of coconut farming in sustainable development. Exhibitions will include demonstrations of eco-friendly coconut-based products, culinary contests featuring coconut-infused dishes, and interactive workshops on modern farming techniques.

A special attraction this year is the “Coconut Art Village,” where local artists will display sculptures, paintings, and handicrafts inspired by the coconut tree. Additionally, the “Young Growers Pavilion” will spotlight innovations by student entrepreneurs and agri-tech startups.

Security and logistics have been ramped up to accommodate an expected footfall of over 50,000 visitors, including international guests and trade delegates. Local hotels and homestays have reported full bookings, and transport services have been extended to facilitate smooth travel to and from the venue.

The Island Coconut Festival has grown into a symbol of regional pride and economic opportunity, offering a platform for cultural exchange and agricultural advancement. Organizers hope this year’s edition will further strengthen Sri Vijaya Puram’s reputation as a leading destination for agro-tourism and community-driven celebration.
