India’s 21st livestock census begins in the A and N Islands
Today marks the formal start of the 21st Livestock Census, which will cover the entire nation and go through February 2025. This extensive exercise, which is carried out every five years, attempts to evaluate the livestock population in order to support the planning and implementation of programs to improve the livestock industry and its contribution to the GDP of the country. The National Digital Livestock Management (NDLM) division of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Naw Delhi, created the specialized software that comes with these devices.
Collecting comprehensive data on livestock populations, including domestic animals and poultry birds, as well as their breed, sex, age, and function, is the main goal of the Livestock Census. Effective planning, execution, and monitoring of initiatives targeted at enhancing the livestock industry will be made possible by this crucial data. Data gathering, trend identification, resource allocation, and international reporting are among the main goals.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services is the focal agency for this program in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which encompasses 3 districts and 551 villages. To guarantee a seamless procedure, a committed group of 55 enumerators, eight supervisors, and three District Nodal Officers will work under the direction of the State Nodal Officer and Assistant State Nodal Officer. All livestock owners are urged to assist the designated enumerators during the census by giving accurate information to support this important national endeavor. It is anticipated that the final results would be turned in by February 2025.
