India’s 2027 population census is set to usher in a new era, not just with the inclusion of caste data, but also with a major tech upgrade. The government is rolling out a digital-first approach that promises to speed up the massive exercise significantly.
According to sources quoted by The Times of India, this edition will depart sharply from the 2011 census, which took years to finalize. Thanks to mobile-based data collection and real-time processing systems, final figures are expected to be released within just nine months of the enumeration starting in February 2027.
With digitization at its core, India’s next census might be its most efficient—and revealing—yet.
