Indian Coast Guard Saves Passenger’s Life at Hut Bay Jetty, Little Andaman

Little Andaman, July 24, 2025 — In a swift and commendable response to a medical emergency, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) personnel stationed at Hut Bay, operating under the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), successfully saved the life of a 41-year-old passenger who collapsed at the Hut Bay Jetty.

At approximately 1745 hours, Deputy Commandant Bimal Kumar Mansingh of ICG Ship C-150, while engaged in evening exercise, observed the individual lying unconscious with blood flowing from his mouth. The passenger, who had just disembarked from MV Sentinel and was accompanied by his elderly mother, had reportedly suffered a seizure resulting in a head injury and oral lacerations.

Responding with urgency, the ICG team mobilized medical and logistical support from Coast Guard Station Hut Bay. The patient was stabilized on-site and remained responsive until further medical assistance arrived. Surg Lt Cdr Santhosh Kumar Thanugula, Station Medical Officer, administered first aid and coordinated the patient’s safe transfer to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Hut Bay.

The coordinated efforts of the Coast Guard drew widespread appreciation from the local community, reaffirming ANC’s commitment to public safety and humanitarian assistance across remote island territories.
