Inclusive Sports Meet Held at Car Nicobar to Empower Children with Special Needs

A two-day Block Level Inclusive Sports Meet for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) was successfully organized at Government Middle School, Kamorta, Nancowrie, under the Inclusive Education initiative of Samagra Shiksha. Held on October 31 and November 1, the event aimed to promote inclusivity, participation, and sportsmanship among differently-abled students across the region.

The sports meet was divided into two segments: Elementary Level (Pre-Primary to Class VIII) and Secondary Level (Classes IX to XII). Both categories witnessed enthusiastic participation from children, who showcased their talents in various athletic and recreational activities designed to accommodate diverse abilities.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Ms. Molly Lily, Principal of GSSS Champin, who served as the Chief Guest. She was joined by Mr. Om Prakash, Block Project Officer, Nancowrie, and other local education officials. In her address, Ms. Lily emphasized the importance of inclusive platforms that recognize ability over disability and encouraged continued efforts to integrate children with special needs into mainstream educational and social activities.

The event was conducted in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Council of India and aligned with the Fit India Movement. The theme “Know me for my abilities, not my disability” resonated throughout the meet, reinforcing the message of empowerment and equal opportunity.

Parents, teachers, and community members attended in large numbers, lending their support and appreciation to the young athletes. The meet concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where participants were awarded medals and certificates for their performance and spirit.

This initiative marks a significant step toward building a more inclusive educational environment in the Nicobar Islands, fostering confidence and community engagement among children with special needs.
