Hrithik Roshan’s sister Sunaina spoke she would wake up like a ‘blank page’ after drinking, parents would take away money: ‘It was scary’

Actor Hrithik Roshan’s sister Sunaina Roshan has previously spoken about her struggle with alcohol addiction. In a recent interview, Sunaina recalled her “terrifying” experience at the rehabilitation centre, where she spent 28 days. Sunaina said she knew she had to get herself better, as she couldn’t remember what she had done the previous night.
Calling that experience a “nightmare”, Sunaina told Shosha, “I don’t know what normal rehab is like, but it was a 28-day course where they would harass you over and over again. We had no choice but to sit.
At the rehab centre, someone was telling me that there was something wrong with my family at that time, so I was not able to concentrate on what they were counselling me about. Going to the rehab centre was one of the most difficult things for me.” Sunaina explained the kind of routine she followed: waking up at 5:30 a.m., having breakfast at 6 a.m., followed by meditation and rigorous counselling sessions.
She was not given a cell phone and was not allowed to consume sugar, chocolate or caffeine. Sunaina said she was angry at herself during this phase and even though her parents tried their best to help her, she knew that nothing would work unless she went to a rehab centre. “I was angry with myself that I had to get rid of this habit. Everything they did to me – hiring bodyguards, taking away my money, cash.
And then one day, I called my parents. I didn’t like myself at all during that phase. I sat them down and told them ‘find me a good rehab’. I want to go, I want to get treatment,” she said,
When asked how she made this decision for herself, Sunaina recalled, “There were days when I would forget what I did the previous night and it was scary. When I would drink and sleep at night, I would wake up in the morning and I would be like a blank page. And then I decided that I have to go and get treatment as soon as possible.”
Sunaina said that during this phase she “didn’t even like to look at myself” and “didn’t like myself”, but her resilience motivated her to get better. She said, “I have always been a fighter, I have always been the strongest person, so I decided I have to go and get through this.” She further added that one’s real test begins when one comes out of the rehab centre. Sunaina called it the toughest thing of her life.
