Honda Unveils ‘0 α’ Electric SUV Concept, Confirms India Launch in 2027

Japanese automotive giant Honda Motor Co. has unveiled its next-generation electric SUV concept, the Honda 0 α (Alpha), at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. The concept marks the beginning of Honda’s new “0 Series” of electric vehicles and is slated to debut in the Indian market in 2027, alongside its launch in Japan.

The Honda 0 α is designed as a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform, not a conversion of an existing model. It reflects Honda’s new design philosophy of “Thin, Light, and Wise,” emphasizing aerodynamic efficiency, lightweight construction, and intelligent features. The SUV aims to blend seamlessly into both urban and natural environments, supporting a wide range of lifestyles.

Key highlights of the concept include:

  • Distinctive exterior design with a U-shaped lighting signature and near-vertical tailgate for enhanced practicality.
  • Spacious and minimalistic interior, although full cabin details are yet to be revealed.
  • Focus on sustainability, with eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems expected in the production model.

The 0 α will be Honda’s first battery electric SUV for the Indian market. It is expected to be introduced as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import initially, with potential for local assembly depending on market response. Once launched, it will compete with upcoming EVs such as the Tata Curvv EV, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE.06, and MG ZS EV.

The production version of the Honda 0 α is part of a broader strategy by Honda to roll out seven new EVs globally under the 0 Series banner by 2030. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its products and operations by 2050.

Honda has officially unveiled its next-generation electric SUV concept, the Honda 0 α (Alpha), at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, signaling a bold step toward its global EV ambitions. The company confirmed that the production version of this concept will debut in the Indian market in 2027, marking Honda’s first dedicated battery electric SUV offering for India.

The Honda 0 α is part of the automaker’s newly announced “0 Series,” a lineup of seven electric vehicles planned for global release by 2030. Unlike previous models that adapted internal combustion platforms, the 0 α is built from the ground up as a battery electric vehicle (BEV). It embodies Honda’s new design philosophy—“Thin, Light, and Wise”—which emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency, lightweight construction, and intelligent features.

Visually, the concept showcases a futuristic exterior with a U-shaped lighting signature and a near-vertical tailgate designed for practicality. While full interior details remain under wraps, Honda has hinted at a spacious, minimalistic cabin that aligns with its sustainability goals. The vehicle is expected to incorporate eco-friendly materials and advanced energy management systems.

In India, the 0 α will initially be introduced as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import. Depending on market response and regulatory developments, Honda may consider local assembly or production in the future. The SUV will enter a competitive segment, facing rivals such as the Tata Curvv EV, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE.06, and MG ZS EV.

Honda’s broader strategy includes achieving carbon neutrality across all products and corporate activities by 2050. The 0 α concept reflects the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and expanding its EV footprint in emerging markets like India. Further specifications and launch details are expected to be revealed closer to the production model’s release.
