A tragic stampede occurred at Sree Lairai Devi Temple in Shirgao, North Goa, during an annual festival, resulting in six fatalities and multiple injuries. The incident took place around 3 AM, when a large crowd gathered for the traditional Shree Devi Lairai Jatra.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the site and assured a detailed inquiry, promising that the report would be made public. He also visited the injured at North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa and pledged financial assistance to affected families.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and assured support to the local administration. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the stampede, with initial reports suggesting that a slippery and sloped area near the temple may have contributed to the chaos.
