Gandhis, Indira and Sonia adopted the surname of her husband: Tripura Royal Amid Row

Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, the founder of Tipra Motha and the royal scion of Tripura, retaliated against the Congress party on Wednesday, citing customs that dictate that a married woman takes her husband’s surname. In response to a question regarding the claims made by the Congress party, Mr. Debbarman stated, “We are from India. After marriage, girls in this case adopt their husband’s last name. The Gandhi surname was not given to Indira Gandhi at birth. In accordance with Indian customs, she was given her husband’s surname upon marriage to Feroze Gandhi. The same reasoning holds true for Sonia Gandhi. Along with her name, Priyanka Gandhi also goes by the Vadra surname.
I was born into this family, my sister. She received her husband’s surname upon marriage in addition to the surname she inherited from her family.” Furthermore, Mr. Debbarman stated that he has the utmost respect for the senior Congress and has never made any disparaging remarks about Rahul Gandhi or other senior Congress officials. Additionally, he exhorted citizens to cast their ballots on election day. Considering the current heatwave-like conditions in Tripura, a request is being made to the Election Commission to provide sufficient facilities for voters. Given the heat, voters should have access to appropriate sheds and water, Debbarman continued.
Kriti Singh, the elder sister of Mr. Debbarman, is a notable contender for the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat, where the ruling BJP-TIPRA Motha combo has fielded. She married Yogeshwar Raj Singh of the Rajkot royal family of Chhattisgarh after being born and raised in Shillong and receiving an education up to Class X. According to the Election Commission of India’s records, she ran as an independent candidate from the Kawardha constituency in the 2018 Chhattisgarh assembly election using the name Kriti Devi Singh. However, Kriti Singh Debbarman was her name as given by the BJP.
It is also important to highlight that this is the last Wednesday of the outspoken campaign for East Tripura. On April 26, there will be elections for the well-known position. In order to choose the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha, there will be six more election stages, each held on a separate date until June 1. The elections’ first round was held on April 19. On June 4, the outcomes will be declared.
