Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das is poised to make his directorial debut with the film “Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos.” In a recent vlog by filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, who visited Vir’s home in Mumbai, he drew comparisons between his film and prominent works such as “Om Shanti Om” and “Happy New Year.”
Farah and her cook, Dilip, arrived at Vir’s house, where Farah asked Dilip about Vir’s upcoming film. When Dilip showed ignorance, Farah jokingly remarked on his lack of knowledge. Vir interjected with the film’s title as “Happy Patel” and “Khatarnak Jasoos,” to which Dilip confusedly referred to an earlier film, “Happy New Year.” Farah expressed disappointment at Dilip’s mix-up, noting his tendency to misinterpret titles.
Vir humorously described a film as “crazy and silly,” likening it to “Happy New Year.” When Farah confronted him about calling her film “faltu” (silly), Vir clarified his own film was fully “faltu,” prompting Farah to suggest hers might be only half “faltu.”
Farah praised the trailer of “Happy Patel,” calling it funny and expressing her love for the character’s accent, though she acknowledged it might not appeal to everyone. Vir remarked that while the stars are not as prominent, fans of “Om Shanti Om” would likely enjoy this film.
Farah and Vir discuss the film “Om Shanti Om,” with Vir praising it as a leading spoof movie and comparing it to “Tees Maar Khan” and “Andaz Apna Apna.” Farah mentions Vir’s observation that “Happy Patel” references “Om Shanti Om.” Vir notes the absurdity of the script in “Om Shanti Om,” emphasizing the actors’ serious portrayal, leading Farah to humorously question whether Vir is complimenting or insulting her script.
The film is a humorous spy caper centered on Happy Patel, a clumsy but eager spy whose adventures result in unforeseen chaos. Starring Vir Das, Mona Singh, Sharib Hashmi, and Srushti Tawade, it also includes cameos from Imran Khan and Aamir Khan. The release is set for January 16.
