Four-Day Chess Training For PETs/ PTIs Commences For Rangat Zone

A four-day chess training program for primary school students, teachers, and Physical Education Teachers (PETs/PTIs) of Rangat Zone began today at PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Sabari Junction. This initiative, organized by the Directorate of Education under the Chess in Schools project, aims to foster a strong interest in chess as a tool to boost cognitive abilities and support academic development. Students from nearby primary schools, along with their teachers and PETs, are actively taking part in the sessions.

The opening ceremony was honored by Shri Vikash Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, N&M Andaman, who formally launched the event by making the first ceremonial move on the chessboard. In his speech, he motivated both students and teachers to fully engage with chess, highlighting its importance in enhancing concentration, patience, and critical thinking skills. He also encouraged participants to spread the game within their families and social circles to help it flourish in the community.

Shri V. Ranjith Kumar, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), Rangat, discussed chess’s beneficial effects on children’s mental growth, while Dr. Shushim Kumar, DEO, Rangat, pointed out the career opportunities chess can provide for students.
