Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market, with its first foldable iPhone likely to debut in 2026. While earlier reports suggested a book-style design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, a new report indicates Apple is also testing a smaller clamshell-style model.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring a vertically folding device, informally called the “iPhone Flip”, which would resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr in form factor. Prototypes of the clamshell design have reportedly been tested inside Apple’s labs, though a launch timeline remains unclear.
The foldable iPhone is expected to sit at the top of Apple’s lineup, creating a halo effect across its product portfolio. Reports suggest Apple is evaluating multiple foldable form factors to appeal to different customer segments, as the company sharpens its focus on foldable iPhones after facing delays with a larger foldable iPad project.
