A technical glitch in check-in systems disrupted operations at several airports on Wednesday, causing confusion and delays, including at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. A video circulated online showing a crowd of passengers surrounding an airline helpdesk, demanding updates about their flights. Travelers were seen holding tickets and mobile phones while questioning staff, who appeared overwhelmed despite repeated attempts to calm the situation.
PTI reported that the check-in issues led to delays for some flights. Earlier, the disruption was mistakenly attributed to a Microsoft outage, but the company later clarified that no Windows outages had occurred. Airlines reportedly affected included IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) stated that ground teams were working with all stakeholders to ensure smoother passenger operations.
The problem stemmed from a third-party system and was detected on Tuesday, with Air India confirming by the evening that the issue had been fully resolved and flights were operating normally. This follows a similar incident last month at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where a technical fault in the Automatic Message Switching System caused over 400 flight delays, forcing air traffic controllers to manually prepare flight plans, significantly slowing operations.
