In a significant step toward promoting local enterprise and indigenous products, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration inaugurated the ‘Dweep Sugandh’ sale outlet at Haddo, Port Blair. The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Industries, aims to showcase and market the unique produce of the islands under the One District One Product (ODOP) framework.
The outlet was formally inaugurated by senior officials of the A&N Administration, including the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Industries), Ms. Chanchal Yadav, IAS, and Secretary (Industries), Dr. Satyendra Singh Dursawat, IAS. The ceremony was attended by representatives from local self-help groups, artisans, and members of the public.
Located in a prominent commercial zone, the ‘Dweep Sugandh’ outlet will serve as a dedicated retail space for island-made goods such as coconut-based products, spices, handicrafts, herbal items, and processed foods. The initiative is designed to empower local producers, enhance market access, and encourage sustainable livelihoods across the archipelago.
Officials emphasized that the outlet will not only boost economic activity but also preserve the cultural identity of the islands. By integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern retail practices, the outlet is expected to attract both residents and tourists seeking authentic island experiences.
The inauguration aligns with the broader vision of the Union Territory to promote self-reliance, support micro-enterprises, and strengthen the local value chain. The Department of Industries has also announced plans to expand the ‘Dweep Sugandh’ brand to other parts of the islands in the coming months.
The outlet is now open to the public and will operate daily, offering a curated selection of products that reflect the rich biodiversity and cultural heritage of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
