DMK Accuses Modi and Amit Shah of Misleading Claims on Tamil Nadu Fund Allocation

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that their claims of increased central fund allocation to Tamil Nadu under the BJP-led regime are “false and misleading.”

In a strongly worded editorial published in its official organ Murasoli, the DMK accused the Centre of betraying Tamil Nadu and diverting attention through “lies.” The editorial was released in conjunction with the party’s newly launched Oraniyil Tamil Nadu (Tamil Nadu as a single team) campaign, which combines election outreach, membership enrolment, and a public awareness drive on the state’s political grievances.

According to DMK President and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the campaign aims to unite citizens in defense of Tamil Nadu’s language, culture, and constitutional rights. Stalin questioned the Centre’s contribution to the state, asking, “What is the Centre’s special scheme for Tamil Nadu during the past 10 years?”

The DMK cited the stalled Madurai AIIMS project as a prime example of the Centre’s neglect. Although announced in 2015 and inaugurated by PM Modi in 2019, the hospital remains non-functional. A recently released video clip on the project’s progress was criticized by the DMK as a token gesture after years of inaction.

The party also claimed that the Tamil Nadu government has had to contribute its own funds to implement centrally sponsored schemes, challenging the Centre’s narrative of generous support.

The DMK alleged that neither Modi nor Shah have specified the schemes through which increased funding was provided. “They cannot say that,” the editorial stated, accusing the BJP-led Centre of failing to substantiate its claims with verifiable data. With assembly elections scheduled for April 2026, the DMK’s campaign is expected to intensify political discourse in the state. The party has launched a 45-day door-to-door membership drive, targeting 30% voter enrolment at each polling station, positioning itself as a bulwark against what it calls “systematic injustice” from the Union government.

The allegations mark a significant escalation in the DMK’s confrontation with the Centre, setting the tone for a high-stakes electoral battle in Tamil Nadu.
