District-Wide TB Clinics Conducted Across Nicobar to Enhance Patient Care and Early Detection

Nicobar, August 28 — In a concerted effort to strengthen tuberculosis (TB) care and accelerate early detection, the District Health Department of Nicobar, in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), organized a series of TB clinics across the region throughout August 2025. The initiative was part of the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat campaign, aimed at eradicating tuberculosis through community engagement, proactive screening, and improved access to treatment.

Special health camps were held at multiple Health & Wellness Centres, including a notable clinic at Chowra Island on August 9. These camps offered comprehensive services such as sputum collection, chest X-rays, general health check-ups, and distribution of updated TB medications. Medical officers and frontline health workers conducted awareness sessions to educate residents on TB symptoms, transmission, and the importance of completing treatment regimens.

The outreach program targeted vulnerable and remote populations, ensuring that even the most isolated communities received timely medical attention. Mobile diagnostic units were deployed to facilitate on-the-spot testing, and patients diagnosed with TB were immediately enrolled in the Nikshay portal for treatment tracking and support.

District health officials emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and community participation in combating TB. “Our goal is to reach every household, identify cases early, and ensure uninterrupted treatment. These clinics are a vital step toward a TB-free Nicobar,” said a senior health officer overseeing the campaign.

The initiative aligns with the national goal of eliminating TB by 2025 and reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare delivery in underserved regions. Further clinics and follow-up camps are scheduled in the coming months to sustain momentum and monitor patient outcomes.
