The North & Middle Andaman District Police have busted an illegal ganja cultivation operation in Gandhi Nagar, Diglipur, reinforcing their ongoing crackdown on narcotics-related activities.
Acting on credible intelligence, a team from PS Diglipur led by Inspector Vijay Kumar (SHO) conducted a targeted raid. The team comprised SI Abdul Shakil, SI K.P. Abdul Aziz, HC Sanjit Madhu, and PCs Ashish Kumar Singh, Yasir Arafath, Bijoy Sarkar, Lalita Sarkar, and Ramesh Lall, accompanied by two independent witnesses. The operation was supervised by Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur.
During the search, police recovered a cannabis plant weighing 102 grams, hidden behind a betel leaf plantation owned by the suspect. The accused, Amar Das (63), resident of Ward No. 1, Gandhi Nagar, admitted to cultivating the plant for personal use and occasional sale to acquaintances. He was arrested immediately, and a case under the NDPS Act was registered at PS Diglipur.
