CRC Brookshabad launches a five-day free prosthetic and orthotic camp

In partnership with Mahaveer Seva Sadan and the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation, and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, A&N Islands, the Rotary Club of Port Blair organized a free five-day prosthetic and orthotic camp that began on April 10, 2025, at the CRC’s Brookshabad location. In terms of encouraging inclusivity and improving mobility for people with disabilities throughout the islands, the program represents a significant advancement. A dedicated group of orthotic and prosthetic professionals from Kolkata has come to offer superior, individualized care.

The group provides unique fittings for orthotic devices and prosthetic limbs under the direction of Mr. Gautam Roy, Chief Prosthetist & Orthotist at Mahaveer Seva Sadan. About fifty clients from different regions of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands received expert guidance on the first day. Prosthetic limbs for the upper (arms, hands) and lower (legs, feet, toes) limbs are among the services offered, along with orthotic devices like ankle-foot orthoses for people with foot drop, cerebral palsy, and stroke, and knee-ankle-foot orthoses for people with muscular dystrophy and polio.

Along with other club members, Ms. Raj Mahajan, a founding member of Mahaveer Seva Sadan, and Ms. Sumithamol S, the director of CRC A&N Islands, Mr. Sagar Khurrana, the president of the Rotary Club, attended the inaugural ceremony. On April 14, 2025, the camp will come to an end with a farewell event where the recipients will receive their prosthetic devices. Before the deadline on April 13, those who require these services are urged to register.
