Congress Urges Amit Shah to Ensure J&K Government’s Involvement in All Decisions

The Congress party has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure that the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is involved in all decisions and initiatives concerning the Union Territory. This appeal comes amidst ongoing debates about the balance of power between the elected government and the Raj Bhavan (Governor’s office) in J&K.

Congress Chief Whip Nizamuddin Bhat emphasized that the elected government, which has received a significant mandate from the people, must not be bypassed in any decision-making process. He stated that while the Centre and the Raj Bhavan have certain constitutional powers, it is essential to involve the state government in matters related to governance, policy initiatives, and reviews. Bhat described this as not only a constitutional obligation but also a moral and ethical responsibility.

The Congress party’s statement comes ahead of Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to J&K, where he is expected to address various issues and initiatives. The party has highlighted the importance of respecting the democratic mandate of the J&K government and ensuring that its role is not undermined, even in advisory matters.

This appeal reflects the broader concerns about maintaining a balance between central authority and regional autonomy in J&K, especially after the abrogation of Article 370, which previously granted the region special status. The Congress party’s stance underscores the need for collaborative governance to uphold democratic principles and address the aspirations of the people of J&K.
