Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, condemned the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a direct assault on the unity and integrity of the nation. He urged the Centre to convene an all-party meeting to foster collective resolve against terrorism.
Speaking to mediapersons in Bengaluru on April 23, Kharge emphasized the need for unity, stating, “The government of India should convene an all-party meeting soon to show that we are united and all parties stand with the government.”
Demanding swift action against the perpetrators, Kharge stressed the importance of justice for the victims’ families and strict measures to combat terrorism. He also highlighted the economic impact of such attacks, quoting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who described tourism as the state’s major income source and warned that these incidents could lead to economic collapse.
Kharge noted that Pakistan-based terrorists claimed responsibility for the attack and called for a united front to protect the nation’s unity and integrity. He assured cooperation with the government in responding to terrorism.
With the Amarnath Yatra approaching, Kharge urged the Centre to tighten security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful pilgrimage.
The press meet also saw the presence of KPCC chief and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
