Congress Raises Concerns Over Jagdeep Dhankhar’s Silence 100 Days After Resignation

The Indian National Congress has publicly questioned the prolonged silence of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, marking 100 days since his unexpected resignation from office. The party has also criticized the absence of a formal farewell function, a customary gesture extended to all previous vice presidents.

Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, issued a statement on October 29, 2025, highlighting what he described as an “unprecedented event in Indian political history.” He noted that Dhankhar resigned suddenly and without explanation late on the night of July 21, 2025, despite having previously expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“For 100 days, the former Vice President who used to be in headlines daily has been totally silent—unseen and unheard,” Ramesh said, adding that the lack of transparency surrounding Dhankhar’s resignation continues to raise questions.

The Congress party has demanded that Dhankhar be accorded a proper farewell ceremony, in line with the tradition followed for his predecessors. The absence of such a gesture, they argue, reflects poorly on the current administration’s regard for constitutional offices.

Dhankhar, who assumed office in August 2022, was expected to serve until 2027. His resignation, reportedly citing medical reasons, has not been followed by any public appearances or statements, further fueling speculation about the circumstances surrounding his departure.

While the government has not officially responded to the Congress’s remarks, the issue has sparked renewed debate over the treatment of high constitutional functionaries and the importance of institutional decorum.
