In Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district, a Youth Congress leader, Hemant Bhoyar, was killed, and his sister-in-law, Champi, was injured after a BJP worker, Purendra Kaushik, allegedly rammed his car into their motorcycle and fled the scene.
Bhoyar, who was a panch of Mulmula village, was heading to the market with Champi, the sarpanch of the same village, when the incident occurred near Dogri Guda. Kaushik had previously contested for the sarpanch’s post but lost to Champi.
Locals rushed the injured to the hospital, where Bhoyar succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His family has alleged that the attack was politically motivated, citing previous threats from Kaushik following the panchayat elections.
Congress workers staged protests at the police station, district hospital, and national highway, demanding Kaushik’s arrest. Former minister Mohan Markam joined the protests, alleging that the attack was premeditated.
Police have taken Kaushik into custody, but an official case is yet to be registered, and investigations are ongoing.
