Chatham Memorial: Lt. Governor Pays Homage on 1857 Freedom Fighters’ Arrival Anniversary in A & N Islands

On 10th March 2025, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, led a heartfelt tribute to the heroes of the First War of Independence. The occasion marked the anniversary of the arrival of the first batch of 1857 freedom fighters to the islands.

During a solemn ceremony at the Chatham Memorial on Chatham Island, the Lieutenant Governor laid a wreath in honor of these brave individuals. Senior officials, members of the Local Born Association, long-standing residents, and the general public joined in offering floral tributes. A two-minute silence was observed to honor the freedom fighters who gave their lives for India’s independence. The event underscored the enduring legacy of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the nation’s journey to freedom.
