CDS General Anil Chauhan: India’s own iron dome will be Sudarshan Chakra

At the Army War College in Mhow, the Indian Armed Forces hosted its first-ever Tri-Service seminar, Ran Samwad, where Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan gave the keynote presentation. In order to examine the future of warfighting and national security readiness, military practitioners, academics, think tanks, and industry professionals convened for the conference, which had as its theme “Impact of Technology on Warfare.” General Chauhan, who spoke at the event, emphasized the growing significance of technology systems that are developed domestically in order to address new strategic issues.

He brought up the creation of the Sudarshan Chakra, a futuristic defense shield modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech. The CDS stated, “The Sudarshan Chakra, India’s own Iron Dome or Golden Dome, is a second topic for discussion in this seminar.” On August 15, the Prime Minister made reference to this, saying that the Sudarshan Chakra, which is anticipated to be implemented by 2035, will strengthen India’s strategic defense. “Developing a system to safeguard India’s strategic, civilian, and nationally significant sites is the goal,” he continued.

He clarified that by integrating detection, acquisition, and neutralization capabilities, the device will function as a shield as well as a sword. General Chauhan stated, “It will necessitate the establishment of strong procedures and infrastructure, employing both hard and soft skills, including kinetic and directed energy weapons.” Regarding the seminar’s overarching subject, the CDS emphasized the necessity of a strategic change in military doctrine and practice.
