BSF Neutralizes Pakistani Intruder Along Punjab Border Amid Heightened Security

A Pakistani national attempting to cross into Indian territory was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector on the intervening night of May 7-8. The incident occurred near Gate No. 207/1, close to the Lakha Singh Wala BSF post in Mamdot block, where the intruder ignored multiple warnings before being fired upon.

The infiltration attempt comes at a time when Punjab is on high alert, following India’s recent Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was carried out in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives.

According to BSF sources, the intruder was observed moving toward the border security fence under the cover of darkness. Despite repeated warnings, he continued advancing, prompting BSF personnel to open fire.

Following the incident, the body was recovered at daybreak and handed over to Punjab Police for further investigation. Authorities are working to determine whether the intruder had terror links or was acting independently.

The incident has led to tightened security measures across Punjab’s border districts, including Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran. Schools in these areas have been ordered to remain closed for the next few days as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has closed its airspace for commercial flights at Lahore and Islamabad airports, citing security concerns. The Indian government has assured that border surveillance has been intensified to prevent further infiltration attempts.
