Bajaj General Insurance Limited has introduced Fetal Flourish, a new fetal health insurance rider aimed at supporting families facing medical complexities during pregnancy, at an affordable premium of ₹1,025. Announced in Pune on January 14, the offering focuses on advanced in-utero care an area largely left uncovered by conventional maternity insurance.
Offered with the insurer’s flagship products, My Health Care Plan and Health Guard, the rider is available to women aged 18 to 45 years, with a nine-month waiting period from policy inception. It provides coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per maternity event for the first two maternity events under the base health indemnity policy.
What sets Fetal Flourish apart is its coverage of 16 specialised in-utero procedures that are often critical in high-risk pregnancies. These include amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, fetal tissue biopsy, amnioinfusion and amnio-reduction, thoracoamniotic shunt for fetal pleural effusion, fetoscopy and fetoscopic laser surgery for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, fetal reduction, surgeries for neural tube defects, fetal cystoscopic surgery, FETO for congenital diaphragmatic hernia, amniotic band syndrome surgery, fetal aortic valvuloplasty, and intrauterine transfusion.
With reports indicating that about 17% of women in India now give birth after the age of 35, pregnancy-related complications and the emotional and financial stress that comes with them are on the rise.
