Atishi Criticizes BJP Govt: Calls for Economic Data-Driven Delhi Budget Over ‘Kheer’ Ceremonies

Atishi, a prominent AAP leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi, criticized the BJP-led Delhi government for not presenting the Economic Survey before the budget session. She argued that a budget cannot be prepared without a detailed financial review, emphasizing the importance of the Economic Survey in understanding the state’s financial health. Atishi dismissed the government’s justification that the delay was due to pending CAG reports, accusing them of hiding the survey.

The controversy arose during the BJP’s first budget session in Delhi in over 26 years, which began with a traditional “kheer” ceremony. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the assembly that the Economic Survey would be tabled soon, as audits in various departments were still ongoing. However, Atishi questioned the government’s ability to prepare a budget without this critical data, stating that such a practice had not been seen in the past decade.

The session also included the tabling of a CAG report on the Delhi Transport Corporation, shedding light on its financial and operational aspects. The BJP government, which recently returned to power in Delhi, is set to present its first budget, themed “Viksit Delhi,” focusing on infrastructure development, environmental initiatives, and social welfare programs. Atishi’s remarks highlight the ongoing political tensions and debates over governance and financial transparency in the state.
