At VSI Airport, the Chief Secretary opens the “Avsar SHG Sales Counter”

Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, the Chief Secretary of A&N Administration, opened the “Avsar SHG Sales Counter” at the Departure Conclave of Veer Savarkar International (VSI) Airport, marking a major step towards empowering Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM). Mr. Devender Yadav, Director of VSI Airport, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Ms. Sapna Priya, Director (Rural Development), and Mr. Arjun Sharma, Secretary (Rural Development) attended the occasion.

For the purpose of giving SHG members direct access to a wider consumer base, the A&N Administration and AAI collaborated to create the second such sales counter. The recently opened counter gives SHGs a platform for marketing while enabling visitors to buy a range of distinctive, regionally made goods. Dr. Kumar praised the program during his remarks during the launch, highlighting its contribution to supporting regional craftspeople and conserving the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ cultural legacy.

Mr. Arjun Sharma emphasized the Administration’s dedication to bolstering Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by guaranteeing sustainable economic prospects. He emphasized that these kinds of platforms are crucial for maintaining the distinctive customs of the area while promoting financial empowerment. SHG members conveyed their appreciation for the chance, pointing out that the sales counter would greatly increase their consumer base and help them become financially independent. It is anticipated that the “Avsar SHG Sales Counter” will support the local economy and promote awareness of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ rich cultural diversity.
