At the Bambooflat Tsunami Shelter, an adoption awareness program was held

On November 29, 2024, the Directorate of Social Welfare’s State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) hosted an adoption awareness event at the Bambooflat Tsunami Shelter. The program’s objectives were to foster good attitudes toward adoption and to inform Anganwadi personnel and the general public about the legal adoption procedure. The significance of legal adoptions was emphasized by Ms. T. Dharmila, SARA’s Program Officer, who also cleared up common misunderstandings and promoted a positive attitude toward the practice.

Additionally, she gave information about the recently established Specialized Adoption Agencies in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, outlining their functions in assisting adoptive parents during their trip and easing the adoption process. The District Child Protection Unit’s (DCPU) Protection Officer (NIC), Ms. Suman S. Barla, went into detail on the legal requirements for adoption, including the required paperwork and processes. She helped potential adopting parents comprehend the legal structure involved while highlighting the significance of making sure every child has a loving and stable home.

Mukhiya Sevika, Ms. Anitha Rao, urged participants to tell their friends and family about the knowledge they had acquired. She encouraged the public and Anganwadi workers to find and encourage members of their communities who may be thinking about adoption to get in touch with the Directorate of Social Welfare at Room No. 308 for more information. During the open conversation that followed the program’s conclusion, participants offered ideas and promised to raise awareness of adoption in their local communities.
