At Cellular Jail, the South Andaman District Administration celebrates Veterans’ Day

At the old Cellular Jail, the South Andaman District Administration celebrated Armed Forces Veterans’ Day on January 14, 2025, with tremendous enthusiasm. The occasion honored the valor and sacrifices made by veterans of the armed forces who have devoted their life to defending the security and sovereignty of the country. The event was set against the moving background of the famous Cellular Jail, a tribute to India’s freedom struggle.

Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is observed to commemorate Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army after independence, and his retirement anniversary. Veterans who have protected the nation against internal and external threats—often at great personal cost—are honored on this national holiday. During his speech, South Andaman Deputy Commissioner Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, conveyed his deep gratitude for the veterans’ service.

The occasion brought to light the vital role that veterans of the armed forces play in creating a safe and forward-thinking India. In addition to urging future generations to emulate the bravery and dedication of the veteran community, the District Administration reaffirmed its commitment to honoring and assisting them. Armed Forces Veterans Day serves as a reminder of the tremendous sacrifices made by many men and women in uniform, highlighting their crucial role in defending the independence and ideals of the country.
