Arvind Kejriwal Fit, But Should Continue Taking Two Daily Insulin Doses: Physicians

A five-person medical board appointed by the Delhi court has instructed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to stick to a low insulin dosage. The board, which is made up of a diabetologist and an endocrinologist, reviewed the information before making the judgment. Following their virtual meeting, the board decided that Mr. Kejriwal is in good health and that the current dosage of his medications does not need to be adjusted. After seven days, there will be another review meeting. On Monday night, Mr. Kejriwal received his first injection of insulin when his blood sugar level surged to 217.

When the medical board met the next day, they recommended keeping the dosage the same for five days. He will continue to get a low dosage of insulin twice a day, before lunch and supper, until the next review meeting. According to a Tihar jail official, Kejriwal is receiving home-cooked meals, additional medications that have been prescribed by his doctors, and medical supervision. According to sources, the Aam Aadmi Party leader, who has been detained since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with an alleged liquor scam in Delhi, wrote a note to the superintendent of Tihar Jail after the jail set up a video conference with medical professionals from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, which is run by the central government.

Jail officials stated that the insulin supply had not been increased following the discussion. But Mr. Kejriwal views the situation differently. The values for sugar levels are between 250 and 320 mg/dl, according to Mr. Kejriwal. “I demanded insulin almost every day. Then how are you able to claim that I never brought up the topic of insulin?” The Aam Aadmi Party has previously asserted that Arvind Kejriwal was the target of a plan to kill him while he was incarcerated by keeping him from getting insulin and other diabetes treatments. By accusing Mr. Kejriwal of habitually consuming sugary foods, the Enforcement Directorate implied that they were trying to take advantage of his health in order to gain legal leverage.

Mr. Kejriwal quickly brushed these charges off as trivial and charged that the organization was politicizing the matter. In relation to a money-laundering investigation involving the Delhi government’s now-cancelled excise policy, the Enforcement Directorate detained the chief minister of Delhi on March 21. His incarceration date is April 1 at the Tihar Jail. On May 15, Mr. Kejriwal’s appeal contesting the summonses he received from the investigation agency will be heard by the Delhi High Court.
