The Directorate of Fisheries, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has officially invited applications for leasing designated sea areas to undertake seaweed farming and pearl culture activities. This initiative, notified via the Department of Fisheries Notification dated September 19, 2025, aims to promote sustainable aquaculture and marine-based livelihoods in the region.
Eligible applicants include a wide range of stakeholders such as fishers, fish farmers, fish workers, fish vendors, individual entrepreneurs, private firms, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Fisheries Cooperatives, Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), and Fish Farmers Producer Organizations/Companies (FFPOs/FFPCs).
The move is part of the administration’s broader strategy to harness the economic potential of marine resources while ensuring ecological balance.
