Andaman Law College organizes ‘Save Wetlands Campaign-2025’

Under the direction of Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal (i/c), Andaman Law College organized the “Save Wetlands Campaign-2025” in conjunction with the Department of Environment & Forests, Sri Vijaya Puram, as a proactive measure to increase awareness of the significance of wetland conservation in advance of World Wetland Day 2025. Students, employees, and community volunteers enthusiastically participated in the event, which was recently held as a prelude to the worldwide observance on February 2. Range Officer Mr. Shivendra gave the opening remarks for the campaign, discussing the importance of wetlands for the environment and the urgent problem of plastic pollution.
The participants then pledged their commitment to wetland conservation by signing the Wetland-Mitra Pledge. For the activities of the day, participants were split up into two groups. One group engaged with local communities, distributed booklets, and raised knowledge of efficient waste management techniques in the Sippighat area through an awareness drive. To reduce pollution and clean up the region, the second group organized a rubbish collection drive with the help of Gram Panchayat volunteers and officials.
As a consequence of everyone’s combined efforts, Sippighat is now cleaner and residents are more conscious of how important it is to preserve wetlands. Dr. Jayakumar emphasized that wetlands are essential for biological balance and need immediate attention, and he thanked the Department of Environment & Forests and the Gram Panchayat for their cooperation. In order to remind everyone of the need of protecting these vital ecosystems for future generations, the ‘Save Wetlands Campaign-2025’ sets the stage for the worldwide observance of World Wetland Day.
