A&N Tourism Department to Celebrate World Tourism Day 2025 with Focus on Sustainable Transformation

Port Blair, September 24, 2025 — The Directorate of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, has announced a series of events to mark World Tourism Day 2025 on September 27, aligning with the global theme: “Tourism & Sustainable Transformation.” The celebrations aim to highlight the role of tourism in driving inclusive growth, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment across the islands.

The flagship event will be held at Tagore Government College of Education, Port Blair, and will feature a blend of cultural performances, expert talks, exhibitions, and interactive sessions. The program is designed to engage students, tourism professionals, local entrepreneurs, and policymakers in meaningful dialogue around sustainable tourism practices.

According to officials, the theme reflects the Administration’s commitment to balancing tourism development with ecological preservation. “The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are a biodiversity hotspot and a globally recognized travel destination. This year’s theme gives us an opportunity to showcase how tourism can be a force for good — economically, socially, and environmentally,” said a senior Tourism Department spokesperson.

Key highlights of the celebration include:

  • Panel discussions on eco-tourism, responsible travel, and community-based tourism models.
  • Student competitions including essay writing, poster design, and quiz contests centered on sustainability.
  • Showcase of local handicrafts and sustainable products by island artisans and SHGs.
  • Recognition of tourism stakeholders who have demonstrated excellence in sustainable practices.

The Tourism Department has invited participation from educational institutions, tourism associations, NGOs, and the general public. The event is expected to foster awareness and inspire collaborative efforts toward a greener, more resilient tourism future for the islands.

World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on September 27 under the aegis of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), with each year focusing on a theme that reflects global priorities in the travel and tourism sector.
