Port Blair, September 17 — The Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands joined the rest of the country in launching the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan’ and the 8th edition of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, aligning with the national rollout led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.

The local inauguration ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of DBRAIT, where dignitaries including Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, and Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of A&N Administration, formally flagged off the campaign. Senior officials from various departments also participated in the event, underscoring the UT’s commitment to advancing women’s health and family well-being.

As part of the initiative, a series of health-focused activities have been launched across all health facilities in the islands. These include comprehensive screenings for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), sickle cell disease, anaemia, and tuberculosis, with special outreach to tribal communities. The Social Welfare Department also organized a Food Basket Display featuring healthy recipes to promote nutritious eating habits among women and children.

The campaign will run until October 2, 2025, and is being implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development. It aims to deliver preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services to women and adolescent girls, while integrating nutrition awareness through Anganwadi centres and community engagement drives.

The A&N Administration has urged residents to actively participate in the health camps and avail the services being provided. The initiative is part of the broader national vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047,” placing women’s health at the core of family and societal empowerment.
