Akshay Kumar express history books need correction: ‘We read about Akbar or Aurangzeb, but not about our heroes’

Akshay Kumar made this statement ahead of the release of his film Sky Force, which is based on a true story. Akshay told that he makes films about unsung heroes, as they do not appear in history books.

In the last few years, Akshay Kumar has worked in many biopics. It started in 2018, when he played the character of Laxmi Kant Chauhan in the film PadMan. He then worked in biopics like Gold (2018), Kesari (2019), Samrat Prithviraj (2022), Mission Raniganj (2023), Sarfira (2024) and now Sky Force, which is set to release on January 24.
Sky Force is also based on true stories.
It will be based on the story of India’s retaliatory strike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase in the 1965 Indo-Pakistani air war. The film will see Akshay playing the role of Wing Commander KO Ajuha (inspired by real-life hero OP Taneja) and debutant Veer Pahariya T Vijaya (inspired by Ajjamada Boppaya Devaiah).
While some of these biopics worked for the actor, some flopped miserably. Yet he continues to do such roles. Now, Akshay has revealed why he chose such films.
In an interview with CNN-News18 Showsha, Akshay Kumar revealed that he does films that should have ideally been a part of school textbooks. He said, “There are a lot of things that are not in the books. I deliberately play roles that are not part of our books. I want to do that. They are all unknown heroes. People don’t know anything about them because no one knows about them in depth. I do such roles.”
The actor also complained about children’s history books. He said, “A lot of things need to be corrected. We read about Akbar or Aurangzeb but not about our heroes. They should be mentioned. There are a lot of stories of the army. A lot of people have been awarded the Param Vir Chakra. I feel history needs to be corrected and such leaders should be brought to the fore and told to our generation.”
Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapoor, Sky Force also stars Sara Ali Khan and Nimrat Kaur. Stree 2 producer Dinesh Vijan is backing the film under his banner Maddock Films.
