Ajit Agarkar will meet Rohit Sharma during the DC vs MI game in Delhi before announcing the India T20 World Cup team

The much-awaited announcement of India’s 15-man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 has been largely scheduled. India captain Rohit Sharma and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to meet during the Delhi Capitals vs. Mumbai Indians IPL 2024 match in New Delhi on Saturday. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set May 1 as the deadline for revealing the World Cup roster. Agarkar, Rohit, and the rest of the selection committee are expected to meet in Delhi during the DC-MI match, which is scheduled for April 27 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, to discuss possible choices for India’s 15-man World Cup roster. This according to a story in Dainik Jagran.

Then, Rohit will be in Delhi, while Agarkar, who is now on vacation in Spain, is expected to be in the nation’s capital on April 27 or 28.The committee will have a lot of questions to answer when it comes to picking, including who will open for India with Virat Kohli, who will provide pace to Jasprit Bumrah, whether Yuzvendra Chahal will make the squad, who will be the options for wicketkeeping, and whether Hardik Pandya will make the team despite his poor performance in the current IPL 2024. In addition to skipper Rohit, the report lists Mohammed Siraj,  Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav as confirmed players to travel to the USA for the World Cup.

Only Hardik’s performance for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 will determine his participation. The Mumbai Indians captain has only amassed 141 runs at 23.50 in his first seven games, but he has claimed four wickets in his 15 overs of bowling. It was up for grabs who would be the primary opening option for the IPL 2024 season: Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, with Kohli favored to partner Rohit at the top of the order, it is unclear which of the two young batsmen will be unlucky to miss out.

If the selectors choose to include both players, it will come down to choosing one of Shivam Dube or Rinku Singh, who both have outstanding six-hitting skills down the order, in the squad. India’s World Cup campaign will kick off on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York against Ireland. Pakistan, Canada, and the co-hosts, the United States, are the members of Group A that are grouped with India.
