ABHA Health ID Now Mandatory for OPD Registration at GB Pant Hospital

Outpatient Department (OPD) registrations at G.B. Pant Hospital in Sri Vijaya Puram will now be conducted exclusively through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), also known as the health ID, under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
The move is part of the Centre’s nationwide digital health initiative launched in 2021 to create an integrated and secure digital healthcare ecosystem. The ABHA provides individuals with a unique digital identity, enabling access to personal health records and secure data sharing across healthcare facilities with patient consent.
Under the new system, patients seeking OPD services must present their ABHA/Health ID, the mobile number linked to their ABHA account, or an Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Officials say the requirement will streamline patient identification, reduce paperwork and ensure faster processing at registration counters.
A “Scan & Share” facility has also been introduced at G.B. Pant Hospital, as well as at R.P. Hospital in Mayabunder and B.J.R. Hospital in Car Nicobar. Patients can scan a QR code to generate an OPD token, helping reduce waiting time.
To support the transition, dedicated staff have been deployed at registration counters to assist with ABHA creation and digital token generation. A special ABHA registration desk is operational at G.B. Pant Hospital’s OPD from Monday to Friday between 3 pm and 4.30 pm.
Authorities have urged patients to cooperate as digital health reforms expand across institutions in the Union Territory.
