19-year-old arrested on New Year’s Day in Rangat with illicit ganja

A 19-year-old youth in possession of ganja was successfully arrested by a police team under the command of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, on January 1, 2025, close to the water tank in Parnashala, Rangat. After the Rangat Police obtained credible information about a person allegedly trying to sell illegal ganja, the operation was started. Given the urgency of the situation, a raiding team was quickly assembled under the direction of PS Rangat in-charge Sub-Inspector Abdul Sajeed.
The team included Lady Police Constable Sumitra Halder, Police Constables K. Samir, Yashwant Rao, Sameer Dey, and Head Constable Rushkeshwar Rao. In accordance with protocol, two impartial witnesses from the region were informed about the circumstances and accompanied the team. The team arrived at the site with the required paperwork and an electronic scale, and they quietly took up positions throughout the area. 44 grams of what was believed to be ganja were found during the search in the suspect’s pocket, hidden in a white polythene bag.
Witnesses verified that the material was ganja, and it was immediately sealed and confiscated under a seizure memo. The suspect was served notice under Section 35(3) of the B.N.S.S. Act and instructed to report to the Investigating Officer after there was sufficient evidence of an offense under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act. The police’s prompt and well-coordinated response guaranteed that the illicit substance was removed from the streets, reaffirming their dedication to reducing drug-related offenses in the area.
